Visiting Terme Tuhelj with Kids: A Complete Parent’s Guide (2026)
Terme Tuhelj is one of Croatia’s most popular water parks for families.
It sits in Zagorje county, just 45-60 minutes from Zagreb, making it an easy day trip whether you live nearby or you’re visiting Croatia and want a break from sightseeing with the kids.

Practical Advantage
Tuhelj sits within a 15-minute drive of two other thermal parks; Krapinske Toplice and Terme Jezerčica.
Terme Olimia in Slovenia is about 30 minutes further, but still not too far away. This makes the area a cluster of options, and it’s common to change plans on the way, or at least it is for us sometimes.
If you’re looking for outdoorsy fun closer to the city instead of a pool day, check out our Sljeme Family Guide or our tips for Visiting the Zagreb Zoo with Kids.

Family Tickets
You can combine adults and children for a discount depending on group size, worth checking if you’re visiting as a family rather than buying individual tickets.
Parking: Free and spacious, right around the complex. Even during the busiest weekends, we’ve never had trouble finding a spot.

Entrance: The entrance is on the first floor, reached by stairs from the parking area. There’s also a stroller- and accessibility-friendly path up.

Right at the entrance, there’s a net climbing structure for kids, which buys you a few useful minutes while you sort out tickets.

Entrance Shop: Just inside the door, next to the ticket point, there’s a small shop stocked with pretty much anything you might have forgotten; swimwear, goggles, swim diapers, inflatables, and other pool gear for both kids and adults.
Bracelet Rules: If you want a bracelet (needed for lockers and the sauna world), there’s a €20 deposit, refunded at the end of the day as long as you don’t lose it.
Everything else, restaurant, extras, you pay separately by card or cash.
Stroller Accessibility: The whole complex is stroller-friendly. We’ve brought a stroller on several visits and never had any issues getting around.

Practical Tips for Parents (Before You Pack the Bags)
Food Options
Bringing your own food isn’t officially advertised, but in practice, it’s completely normal.
We’ve always brought snacks, fruit, and small bites for the kids and eaten them inside without any issue, and we’re far from the only ones doing it.

For an actual meal, we usually planned around the on-site restaurant, but here’s an honest heads-up: it’s a modern, fast-food-style setup with digital ordering, and on our last couple of visits the menu was thin.
Just burgers, fries, nuggets, and sandwiches. Fine if that works for your kids, but if you’ve got a picky eater who doesn’t do burgers, you may end up stuck.
My advice:
Pack your own lunch, and count on the restaurant for coffee, drinks, ice cream, or a snack in between rather than a full meal.
Staying Overnight vs. A Day Trip: Hotel Well Review
Hotel Well is a large, renovated hotel connected indoors to the main pool area, meaning you can walk straight from your room to the pools without going outside, which is a real bonus with wet kids.
Friends who visit this hotel regularly, really like the food, the playrooms, and the other kids facilities the hotel offers.
Thinking about turning your visit into an overnight stay? Check availability and current rates for Hotel Well
Not into hotels? Terme Tuhelj also has two other overnight options on-site:
- Glamping Village – luxury mobile homes with their own wellness pool, kids pool, and sauna area, plus full access to the main complex
- Camp Vita – a 5-star campsite with pitches for tents, campers, and motorhomes, open year-round, just steps from the pools
Both are worth a look if you’d rather have more space (or bring your own setup) than book a standard hotel room.
*We haven’t stayed overnight here as a family yet, but once we book a stay, I’ll update this section with our full, firsthand review of Hotel Well and the glamping units!
The Pools & Attractions: What to Expect for Different Ages
Terme Tuhelj has a great variety of pools and attractions, with something for every age. From toddlers still finding their feet in the water to teens chasing an adrenaline rush. Everybody can find their own fun.

What to Pack
What you actually need depends a lot on your family and your kids ages, but here’s what’s become our go-to packing list after enough visits to know what we reach for every time:
Is Terme Tuhelj Kid-Approved?
It’s funny how much you change once you become a parent. Before my daughter discovered how much she loved it, I honestly wasn’t a big fan of therme trips myself.
Now, watching how happy my kids get and the quality time we spend together there, I’ve genuinely come around to enjoying it too.
If your kids love swimming, I think all of Croatia’s thermal parks have something going for them, each one has its own strengths.
What you’ll end up loving most really depends on your own impressions and what your family needs, but Tuhelj has stayed one of the places we come back to again and again, and that alone says a lot.
